The Columns Program

Complete Critical Thinking Program

Columns Philosophy

A single column holds up nothing. But multiple strong columns can support  a structure for millennia. This is the philosophy of our Columns Program. Train the body and mind in strategy, complexity, creativity and humility. We have combined martial arts  with chess and coding/ logic to encourage a love of challenges and lifelong learning. The Columns Program suits youth and adults.

Martial Arts

At times referred to as 'body chess,' Brazilian JiuJitsu training is an exciting way to cultivate the body's wisdom and create a strong foundation for athletic success.

Chess

Never referred to as 'Board JiuJitsu', it should be. We have found many of our jiujitsu athletes are chess enthusiasts. At the very least, our chess program levels the playing field: weight classes, age groups, gender - none of it matters. After an hour on the mat, a seven year old white belt literally turns the tables on a grey belt twice his age at the chess board. We host strategy classes, workshops and regular tournaments to cultivate sportsmanship and skill.

Coding and Logic

Coding is the new literacy. While chess and BJJ lay the foundations for character and critical thinking, our coding and logic classes offer real world skills. We install the mindset of thoughtful programming, learning to use the computer before it learns to use you. We foster the cultivation of healthy habits  regarding technology, educating students on how technologies work and the discipline to create mindful relationships with tech.
